Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that uses a surgical scalpel to exfoliate the skin and removes fine facial hair known as vellus hair. It is also commonly known as removing peach fuzz.
Dermaplaning is a quick procedure with little to no downtime, it can be completed in 30-45 minutes. A tingling sensation is common during the treatment, but you should not feel any pain.
Following dermaplaning, your skin is more receptive to other treatments and will be able to better absorb products and your make up will apply on smoother. This treatment will leave your skin smooth and glowing.
1. Your skin will be cleansed and prepped with a gentle exfoliating cleanser. You can choose to have a topical cream applied to minimized any discomfort.
2. Your aesthetician will use a sterile medical grade blade to gently scrape over your skin’s surface at a 45-degree angle. This works to remove dead skin cells, oil, and hair. Ultimately, revealing smooth and glowing skin.
3. Aftercare: Your skin may feel slightly tingling and may appear slightly pink for 24-48 hours. It is important to use physical sunscreen to protect your skin against sunburn as your skin will be very sensitive after dermaplaning. Avoid direct sun exposure for a few days and apply a moisturizer daily.
Dermaplaning isn’t recommended if you have inflammatory skin conditions such as:
If you’re taking isotretinoin, a prescription medication used to treat severe acne, you should wait 6 months after you stop taking it to try dermaplaning.
No, dermaplaning will not cause the vellus hair on your face to grow back any darker, thicker or faster because the procedure does not trigger hair follicles. It will grow back the exact same way as before your treatment.
Avoid steam rooms, saunas, strenuous workouts or excessive sweating for 3 days
Dermaplaning does not permanently remove your hair. Ongoing treatments may be necessary to maintain results. Typically treatments are 3-4 weeks apart.
